Fonds consists of records relating to the activities and management of the publishing company, including correspondence, financial documents, administrative files, rejection letters, educational materials, edited manuscripts, page proofs, printer proofs, production graphics, design mockups, teacher accompaniments, newspaper clippings, catalogues and sales reports. Fonds also contains Scott McIntyre's records from his work with the Canadian Pacific Publishing Society, and books published by Douglas & McIntyre, including the imprints Greystone Books, Groundwood Books, and Western Producer Prairie Books.

Fonds consists of research sources, drafts, correspondence, interviews, journals, magazines, teaching files, essay files, grant applications, and tax information. Records document Zolf's work as a poet, critic, editor, essayist, filmmaker and professor at the New School and University of Calgary. People with whom Zolf regularly corresponds include poets Charles Bernstein, Anne Waldman, Michael Davidson, Rodrigo Toscano, Erin Moure, Joan Retallack; theorist Judith Butler; artists Josiah McElheny, Zoe Leonard and Moyra Davey, and publisher Alana Wilcox.

Fonds consists of 22 sketchbooks (featuring watercolours, pen and ink drawings, pastel and charcoal sketches, travel diary entries) measuring approximately 8 x 10" to 10.5 x 14". These sketchbooks document Rose Malerby's travels to Prince Rupert via ferry and from there to the Yukon with friends in a Volkswagon bus. Malerby captured landscapes, townscapes, harbour scenes, flora, people, architecture and artifacts, and noted weather conditions, gas costs, where they stopped to eat and places they stayed along the way.

Collection consists of letters written to and from Wil Hudson, his personal photographs and negatives, and type blocks used during his work as a printer. Collection also includes tributes to Wil Hudson written after his death in 2014.

Fonds consists of photographs, sound recordings, manuscripts, original art, ephemera, broadsides and posters collected by Roy Miki over the course of his career as a writer, editor and professor in SFU's English Department.

Fonds consists of materials related to the production and publication of the multimedia and literary arts zine called Rattler, including correspondence, photographs, publicity, drafts and original layouts, artwork, related posters and zine publications, poetry submissions, and copies of the published zines. Fonds also includes t-shirts that were produced to promote the zine, and one file of original layouts created by Heather Haley for the poetry section of LA Weekly.

The fonds consists of manuscripts and typescripts, clippings and reviews, notebooks, correspondence with friends and associates, galley and proofs, broadsides and cards by McClure, anthologies and magazines containing items by and about McClure, conference material, tape recordings, photographs, film and ephemera. Film is the only remaining print of Andy Warhol's unauthorized version of "The Beard" (1966). Correspondents include Richard Brautigan, Robert Creeley, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Bruce Conner, Allen Ginsberg, Gary Snyder and Philip Whalen.

Fonds consists of records relating to the personal and academic life of Peter M. Buitenhuis. Activities, topics, and events documented include course planning and instruction; academic conference attendance and presentations; Buitenhuis's research, writing, and publications; his social life and relationships; and his death and memorial.

Records include correspondence; research notes; class and lecture notes; lesson plans, course syllabi, reading lists, and course work; photographs; manuscripts, publications, literary reviews, articles, and newspaper clippings.

The fonds consists of a typescript copy of the poem "Chant for Half the World".

Covering the time period of 1971 to 2007, the collection is comprised of records created or received by various staff of New Star Books in their business activities. These activities consisted of: soliciting authors for material or responding to author requests for representation, corresponding with authors throughout the editorial process, designing or contracting layouts for books and communicating instructions to vendors, arranging for printing of materials, promoting book tours and maintaining vendor accounts with various independent bookstores and organizations throughout the world. They also monitored book reviews in publications of the popular press and professional organizations, arranged for marketing of products, coordinated payments or receipt of payments, and periodically issued royalty checks. New Star was often reliant on external funding for the publication of some works, especially in instances where translation services were required to reach certain markets, so applications for grants or donations comprise a portion of each series.
The collection reflects some of the major cultural and political issues affecting Canada, and particularly British Columbia and Vancouver, in the late-1970’s and early-1980’s. These topics ranged from criticisms of British Columbia’s Social Credit administration, to works on the Nicaraguan and Cuban revolutions, feminism, gay rights, communism, and the immigrant experiences of Chinese Canadians and Eastern Europeans The collection also offers insight into some of the shifting trend of public interest away from such leftist publications and the choices New Star editors then had to make in choosing marketable content over progressive or provocative literature.
