Piers Island Drawings 1932

This file consists of photocopy of drawings depicting Piers Island penal institution where the Sons of Freedom were detained between the years 1932-1934. Drawings depict prison building complex inside and outside, as well as scene with the police taking away the children. Most drawing are dated in 1934. Drawing are signed by Joe Chernoff, Nicolai W. Grimiakin (Hrimakin?), A.W. Efanoff, This file also contains a report by Grace Berisoff titled “Abduction of the Sons of Freedom children by the Canadian Government in 1932” and a copy of letter from the BC Police Commissioner to Warden of the BC Penitentiary in New Westminster, BC.

Cartmel pertaining to Mike Woiken, one of the prisoners; a chronology written in shorthand by H. W. Cooper regarding a search for an island to set up the penitentiary; the translation of a letter from Russian to English from an inmate to his wife; a report on the refusal of some prisoners to work; telegrams regarding the construction of the penitentiary; and an empty manila envelope belonging to B.C. Penitentiary.
