[Doukhobor suffering]

This file consists of statements, list of people, an outline of daily events in prison (diary) in 1964, songs texts, articles, a declaration and a petition that relate to the Sons of Freedom suffering, especially in prison. In particularly, this file contains a list of deceased Sons of Freedom, list of Agassiz prisoners, a declaration to J. J. Verigin from Agassiz prisoners, and a statement of M. E. Chernenoff. This file contains documents relating to the CCBRD and the KCIR.

This file consists of statements by persons involved in the Passmore Hall incident.

Piers Island Drawings 1932

This file consists of photocopy of drawings depicting Piers Island penal institution where the Sons of Freedom were detained between the years 1932-1934. Drawings depict prison building complex inside and outside, as well as scene with the police taking away the children. Most drawing are dated in 1934. Drawing are signed by Joe Chernoff, Nicolai W. Grimiakin (Hrimakin?), A.W. Efanoff, This file also contains a report by Grace Berisoff titled “Abduction of the Sons of Freedom children by the Canadian Government in 1932” and a copy of letter from the BC Police Commissioner to Warden of the BC Penitentiary in New Westminster, BC.

[Prisoners' statements]

This file consists of a proclamation by the Oakalla prisoners addressed to S. Sorokin (1950) and a statement by Mary Malakoff and Mary Astoforoff addressed to Robert Bonnet and Magistrate Evans (1966).

[Protests against Sons of Freedom's imprisonment]

This file consists of forms, protests messages, lists, statements and petitions with signatures, letters and writings that express discontent with mistreatment and imprisonments of the Sons of Freedom calling it religious discrimination. Most of the documents are dated 1980-1983, one letter from Masha Astafuroff dated 1970, as well as some items that are not dated.

[Women in prison]

This file consists of letters, statements and declarations of women imprisoned in Oakalla prison. Most of records date between 1971 and 1982. Records are addressed to various prominent members of the Doukhobor community, government officials and editors of newspapers.

[Women committee]

This file consists of clippings, letters, petitions, and statements that relate to the Doukhobor and the Sons of Freedom women and men’s imprisonment in Agassiz and Kingston as well as to the matter of children’s removal. Documents are often signed by Doukhobor Mothers or Women Committee as well as by the individual members of these groups.

This file consists of statements provided by women imprisoned in Oakalla prison, including: T. Zmaeff, P. Chernoff, M. Malakoff, M. Astaforoff, A. Kootnikoff and men including: F. Hadikin, P. Perepolkin. In addition, the file contains newspaper clippings.

[Women statements and letters]

This file consists of correspondence and statements by the Doukhobor women relating to arson and imprisonment mostly between 1972 and 1986. Authors and subject of the documents include: Tanya Ostrikoff, Mary Malakoff, Mary Astoforoff, Tina Zmaeff, Vera Posnikoff, Polly Chernoff, Mary Braun. This file also includes telegram (1929) from S. F. Tolmie to Prime Minster McKenzie King regarding disruptions caused by the Doukhobors and their imprisonment.

This file contains photocopies of government publications and memos, resolutions and statements by the CCUB and Doukhobor community, and newspaper clippings that relate to the land issues and the Sons of Freedom, the CCUB, the USCC and the Canadian government. This file includes a copy of an excerpt from Aylmer Maude publication titled: A peculiar people: the Doukhobors (1900).

[Land allotment inquiry]

This file consists of excerpt from proceedings of the hearings related to the Doukhobor Land Allotment Inquiry Act. The document includes J. J. Verigin testimony. In addition, this file contains handwritten account of consecutive Verigins’ leadership and affidavit of Nastia Barisoff. The file relates to the CCBRD and the USCC.

[Dealing with the CCUB land]

This file consists of copy of documents illustrating the disagreements between the CCUB and the Sons of Freedom over land ownership and attempts to evict the Sons of Freedom. This file contains: memorandum of agreement, appeals, message, and an open letter.
