B.C. Lions and Canadian Football League material

This series is comprised of material collected by Ajaib reflecting his deep interest and involvement with Canadian professional football and, in particular, the BC Lions. Ajaib was one of the original 100 investors for the team in 1953 and became a lifelong season ticket holder.
The series is divided into 2 sub-series: Photographs and Textual records.

Organizational and administrative files

Series consists of materials related to the composition and activities of the Women in View festival board of directors and festival staff members. Records include correspondence, reports, meeting minutes, procedures, and photographs.

Programs and publicity

Series contains programs for the Women in View Festivals, including programs for individual performances or events. Series also contains original and photocopied newspaper clippings of press coverage of the Women in View Festivals.

Audio -visual records

This series contains video recording and sound recordings related to Doukhobor culture, art and singing in Canada, Georgia and Russia.

Marketing files

Series consists of records generated by the marketing department of Duthie Books’ head office. Key staff members were Marketing Managers Scott Baldwin and Leanne Nash. Records document the organization of events, annual sales, the customer loyalty program, co-operative promotions, signage, and advertising. Series is divided into the following three sub-series: Events files (1997-1999); Marketing and promotions files (1993-1999) and Advertising files (1997-1999).

General records

This series consists of the records relating to the Peter Legebokoff’s association with various Doukhobor organizations, including the USCC, the Joint Doukhobor Research Committee, and the Doukhobor Cultural Association. The records relate to the Doukhobor cultural events, Sunday school meetings, conventions, and other cultural matters. The records include meeting minutes, correspondence, writings, notes, lists, reports, commemorative pins and buttons and other related material.

USCC (The Union of Spiritual Community of Christ)

This series consists of various documents that were created by Union of Spiritual Community of Christ (USCC) and its members and that relate to the operations of the USCC and to the matters concerning the Doukhobor community from late 1908 until 1999, predominantly 1938-1960s. The USCC emerged in mid 1930s in efforts to unite the Doukhobor community under the name of the Society of Named Doukhobors which was guided Peter P. Verigin (Chistiakov). In 1938, the CCUB was dissolved due to bankruptcy. After the death of Peter P. Verigin in 1939, the leadership of the organization was continued by John J. Verigin, Peter’s grandson. The Society of Named Doukhobors change its name to the USCC in the early 1940s. The records are in Russian and/or English; some are printed and some are handwritten, some have accompanying transcriptions and/or translations; some are original documents and some are photocopies.
This series is divided in to four sub-series: 1: General Documents; 2: War related documents; 3: Financial records; 4: Ephemera and publications; 5: Event records.

Publications, clippings, ephemera

This series contains material related to Doukhobor cultural activities and history, Doukhobor immigration to Canada and Vancouver and response of all level of government to Doukhobors.

Press clippings

Series consists of newspaper clippings of advertisements, announcements, articles and letters to the editor documenting the activities of and publicity received by Duthie Books Ltd., including those addressing the subject of Duthie Books' bankruptcy and financial restructuring.

Publication files

Series consists of records relating to Duthie Books’ publishing activities, including their book review periodical “The Reader,” “The New Reader,” as well as catalogues, guides and various staff, customer and employee newsletters. Series is divided into three sub-series: Original reader files (1986-1995); New Reader files (1996-1999); and Catalogue and newsletter files ([198-]-1999).

Bookmarks

Series consists of original bookmarks produced by Duthie Books. Bookmarks were designed and printed by artists and printmakers like Takao Tanabe, Chris Bergthorson, Hugh Michaelson, Reinhard Derreth and Barbarian Press, among others. The company published approximately nine million bookmarks between 1957 and 1999. A selection of bookmarks have been reproduced in “Duthie’s Bookmarks: 50 years of Bookmarks for Duthie’s Books,” published in 2008 by the Alcuin Society.

Series 1. Printing Examples and Business Records

Series consists of examples of printing done by the Margison Brothers Printers, as well as a small amount of business records and other miscellaneous items created by the family. Items include stationary, greeting cards, calling cards, business cards, invitations, announcements, posters, cash books, sales tax info and other fiscal records, clip art, newspaper clippings, a publication entitled “Be Tolerant”, and information about a platen printing press.

Exhibition records

Series consists of exhibit panels with stamps, postcards and didactic information written by Henshaw, exhibit planning records, and awards received for exhibitions created and displayed at various locations across North America, including the Vancouver Public Library and conferences Henshaw attended as a member of the BC Philatelic Society.

Textual records

This series consists of mainly correspondence and transcripts of interviews. Also included is a project proposal to continue the film-making process of a project that was interrupted by the death of Jon Gates in 1992.

Administrative records

Series consists of correspondence, legal and financial records, notes, manuals, plans, agreements, project files, customer survey research and other materials generated or used by Celia Duthie, as president of Duthie Books, Ltd.

Book reviews and related records

Series consists of correspondence related to the marketing, reviews and sales of New Star publications. The majority of the series are news clippings of various book reviews. Records include: correspondence, photocopies of articles, newspaper clippings and cartoons, and trade publications.

Writings

This series contains writings by Koozma J. Tarasoff related to Doukhobor culture, history and ethnicity and peace ideology in light of their settlement in Canada. This series also contains writings of others related to similar themes.

Photographs

This series consists of photographs found in files elsewhere in the fonds and organized here, stored together for preservation purposes. Each image has been assigned a unique identifier, which is noted at the file level.

Correspondence

Series contains both incoming and outgoing correspondence. The correspondence relates to June's professional life as a writer and her personal life. It is arranged in six sub-series: Correspondence related to novels (1959-1992); Correspondence from publishing companies (1953-1965); Correspondence with agents (1954-1981); Correspondence with Al Hart (1960-1990); General (1958-1992); and Personal ([1949?]-2000).

Background research records

Series consists of records pertaining to Daphne Marlatt’s research for professional projects, including those created for her oral history project with Carole Itter, entitled "Opening doors - in Vancouver's East End: Strathcona", as well as for her general writing and teaching work. Records include oral history transcripts, photographs, transparencies, articles, and other research records.

Series has been arranged into the following two sub-series: “Opening doors - in Vancouver's East End: Strathcona" records (1972-1988) and Research records for teaching and writing ([ca. 1965-2000]).

Film and television works

Series consists of records related to film and television productions that Duke was involved with. Records include drafts of screenplays, scripts, publicity, call sheets, administrative documents, shooting scripts, itineraries and other records related to the development and production of Duke’s cinematic projects. Series is made up of clippings, photographs, correspondence and other records relating to Shackleton’s professional contacts, friends and family members. Records are organized in files named by the individual subject or in general/miscellaneous files.

Tamarind Mem

Series consists of notebooks containing drafts and notes, unbound drafts, and one copy edited by Algonquin Books of Chapel Hill for the novel Tamarind Mem. It also includes articles, interviews and reviews from Canadian and international newspapers.

Editorial correspondence and related records

Series consists of correspondence between the publisher, sub-contractors, vendors, promoters and authors. Most files contain instructions and drafts as to editorial layout, typesetting, artwork, etc. Records include: correspondence, style sheets, contracts, invoices, grant applications, editorial copy, galley proofs, newspaper clippings, magazines, cartoons, photographs and a poster.
