Sound recordings

Series consists of sounds recordings of live performances and studio recordings. Includes appearances on CBC; the performance at Carnegie Hall; and a recording of the last official Purcell String Quartet concert in 1991.

The series has been arranged by the archivist into separate sub-series based on the group lead at the time of recording:

The series consists of sounds recordings of Beyerstein's media appearances and lectures and related textual records. The recordings focus on a variety of Beyerstein's research interests, such as hidden memory (file 2 and file 4), hypnosis (file 3), and false memories (file 10). Some of the items were produced by radio stations, and include appearances on As It Happens (file 1), the Jim Bohannon Show (file 9), and Quirks and Quarks (file 10).

Records include audio cassettes and correspondence regarding Beyerstein's appearance on the Jim Bohannon Show (file 9).

Sound recordings related to Arthur Erickson

Series consists of analogue sound recordings of radio interviews, lecture series, news documentaries, and a soundtrack for the Architectural Institute of America awards ceremony. The subject of these motion pictures includes Erickson, the Erickson/Massey Architects firm, and specific buildings and designs by Erickson.

South Okanagan constituent correspondence

Series consists of W.A.C. Bennett's correspondence with constituents in Ellison, Glenmore, Kelowna, Naramata, Okanagan Centre, Okanagan Mission, Peachland, Rutland, Summerland, Trepanier, Westbank and Winfield, correspondence with local Boards of Trade, with the Kelowna Masonic Lodge and with the Okanagan Valley Health Unit. Documented are community issues, the request and concerns of individuals (such as pension and welfare difficulties) and political concerns. There is a gap from May 13, 1948 to June 14, 1949 when W.A.C. Bennett was not the M.L.A. for South Okanagan.

South Okanagan subjects

Series consists of Bennett's subject files concerning irrigation, the Japanese deportations, the Kelowna Memorial Committee, the Kelowna Regulated Area, Okanagan Lake flooding of 1942 and Westbank Orchards (1945-1946). Included are correspondence, minutes, resolutions, handwritten notes, reports, pamphlets, charts, lists and invoices.

Speakers and lectures files

Series consists of records documenting various lectures and talks given by high-profile, invited speakers, including those sponsored by the Ruth Wynn Woodward Endowed Chair. Speakers have included Lorenne M.G. Clark, Linda M. Fedigan, Ruth Hubbard, Evelyn Fox Keller, Jane Rule, and Eleanor Wachtel, among others. Records include correspondence, proposals, CVs, promotional materials (including posters), and other documentation.

Special events

Series consists of records relating to conferences, seminars, and other special events in which the Centre participated. Records include correspondence, reports, proposals, lists and other documents.

Special events files

Series consists of records relating to public events sponsored by the Latin American Studies program and the Spanish Division of the Department of Literature, Languages, and Linguistics. Activities and events documented include lectures, film series, musical presentations, and conferences. Records include posters, correspondence, brochures, news clippings, and a report on the Spanish-speaking community in greater Vancouver.

Special hearings

In the fall of 1969, nine professors in the Department of Political Science, Sociology, and Anthropology withdrew their services in response to the department being put under trusteeship by the University administration. The University appointed a trustee because of allegations of departmental mismanagement of finances. The department also did not produce a constitution and tenure committee structure that were acceptable to the University administration. Various student and faculty support strikes and protest actions followed. The President suspended nine PSA faculty members who were most actively involved in the strike and later fired seven of them.

The series comprises audio recordings of the suspension hearings held by the Board of Governors for six of those faculty members. The Board conducted the hearings to enable faculty members to appeal their suspension by the President. In each case, the Board upheld the decision by the President to suspend the faculty members. Additional legal proceedings followed the suspension hearings.

Special media

Series consists of sound and moving image recordings related to various dance productions choreographed by Iris Garland both as an independent performer and as an SFU faculty member. It also includes a documentary featuring a workshop taught by Garland. For types of records, see sub-series descriptions.

Specific campaigns

This series contains material related to specific campaigns that Valhalla Wilderness Society initiated, and advocated for or against. The sub-series contains detailed development plan, environmental impact reports and assessments, environmental legislations, correspondence, publications, newsletters, presentation, data sheets, news clippings, maps, postcards, photographs and other documents.

Speeches and lectures

Series consists of speeches given by McTaggart-Cowan on a number of topics, including meteorology, education, and science policy. Includes both finished speeches, rough notes, and background material. Also includes notes on lectures in meteorology given at SFU.

Speeches, talks, writings, will

This series consists of mimeographed transcripts of speeches, interviews, talks, writings, messages and will of P. P. Verigin. Most of the records were transcribed/written down by individuals working with P. P. Verigin (transcriber is not always indicated). Some of the transcribers are: V. Sukharev, P. Biriukov, N. Dergaysov, I. Malov. There is only one handwritten message by Verigin himself. Verigin’s will was captured by Mikhail Verigin. In addition, this series includes photocopy of biographical manuscript of “Gloom shadow of Ivan the Terrible” that appears to be written by P.P. Verigin. Some of mimeographed records are original, some are photocopies. All records are in Russian except for some speeches that are supplied with handwritten translation in English.

Speeches, writings, views

This series consists of documents that were written by P. V. Verigin himself or by other individuals relating his views and ideas. These documents include transcripts of speeches and interviews, petitions, opinion pieces on the Doukhobor community and faith as well as some of the letter-like documents with his opinions on education. It also contains 70 page manuscript in a notebook by F. I. Wishloff recording P.V. Verign’s speeches. All documents in Russian, except for a few documents supplied with English translation.

This series consists of records relating to TeleLearning spin-off companies, including InVentures Incubator Inc., TeleLearning Solutions Inc., CLEARMed Inc., TELEStraining Inc., ThoughtShare Communications Inc., and Virtual Learning Environments Inc. Activities documented include company establishment, business and strategic planning, promotion, and the Network's purchase and / or sale of company shares.

Records include proposals, correspondence, reports, agreements, contracts and memoranda of understanding, meeting minutes, business plans, certificates of incorporation (copies), company by-laws, project files, work plans, promotional material, media releases, financial statements, invoices, share agreements and certificates. Record media include paper and electronic; electronic records are retained in their original software formats (.doc, .rtf, .ppt, .xls, and .pdf).

Sports Information Office files

The Sports Information Office, reporting to the Director of Athletics, is responsible for implementing promotional activities; liaising with the media, the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, and other sports information offices; and the recording of intercollegiate sport statistics and results.

Series consists of records related to the operations of the Sports Information Office.

Sports Photographs

Series consists of photographic materials relating to SFU athletics, athletes, and events that include basketball, football, soccer, swimming, track and field, women's athletics, wrestling, and other miscellaneous sports such as cricket, fencing, hockey, and rugby.

Staff Association office files

Series consists of records created, received and collected by the Simon Fraser University Staff Association in carrying out its functional activities. Records reflect the Association's efforts to represent staff and advocate on their behalf. Also reflects communication with administration, involvement in university life, staff education, social and recreational activities, and the drive to achieve union certification. Includes file lists, constitution, correspondence, memoranda, financial records, agenda, newsletters, minutes of executive and general meetings, staff handbook, and salary proposals.

Staff departments - correspondence

Series consists of records relating to the correspondence between the President and administrators of non-academic staff departments such as the Office of the Bursar, Office of the Registrar, Library, Archives, Human Resources, Financial Aid, and Computing Centre. Records also include working papers, reports and financial documents.

Stamps and related records

Series consists of AIDS-themed single stamps, mint blocks, mint full sheets, slogan cancels, first day covers, comic books and related records collected by Blair Henshaw. Henshaw’s collection represents philatelic materials issued by 84 different jurisdictions.

Standing and Ad Hoc Committees

Series consists of records of standing and ad hoc committees of the Simon Fraser University Faculty Association. Includes correspondence, policy statements, reports, briefs, articles, agenda, constitution, by-laws, proposals, financial statements, and architectural plans.

Stewards' reports

Series consists of records relating to the work of the TSSU's departmental representatives, and the work of chief stewards. Activities documented include the training of stewards, publicizing of stewards' activity, and the chief stewards' supervision of stewards' work. Records include lists of stewards, stewards' bulletins, reports of chief stewards to the executive and membership, training materials, correspondence and notices.
