Outgoing correspondence

File consists of correspondence sent by Gladys Hindmarch relating to personal and professional matters. Correspondents include Cliff Andstein, Roy Kiyooka, Stan Persky, and Daphne Marlatt, among others.

The watery part of the world records

Series consists of records relating to the writing, editing, and publication of Gladys Maria Hindmarch's 1988 book "The Watery Part of the World," based on her experiences working aboard cargo ships in the early 1960s. Hindmarch worked on the book throughout the 1960s, 70s, and 80s, and worked extensively on it from 1985 to 1986, the year she took a sabbatical from her teaching position at Capilano College. It was during this time that the manuscript was first read by Denise Bukowski, Hindmarch's literary agent at Pacific Publishing Services. Working titles for the book project have included "The Boat Stories," "The Boat Book," and "Nootka Odyssey," and these titles are reflected in the file names. Record types in this series include drafts, manuscripts, page proofs, notes, research records, and correspondence.

Correspondence of Stan Persky

Sub-series consists of correspondence of writer Stan Persky, who was a close friend of Blaser. Records include handwritten and typed correspondence.

Royalty statements

Sub-series contains royalty statements from Macmillan, Gollancz, Longmans Green, Dial Press, Beaufort Books, and Second Chance Press for the sales of Skinner's novels.

Fiction and poetry records

Sub-series consists of short story drafts, poems, notes, correspondence with publishers, and short story competition advertisements and submissions. Sub-series also consists of edits, background research, manuscript drafts and floppy disks relating to Shackleton’s unpublished novel, “The Jerusalem Wars.”

Poems for a dark Sunday records

Sub-series consists of copies of Peter Trower’s first collection of poetry, "Poems for a Dark Sunday" published in 1964 as a mimeo. Includes a copy with comments made by Trower at a later date, a copy with comments by Ted Poole, and a revised version created in 1969.

Collected publications

Sub-series consists of published books, chapbooks, broadsides, journals, and other published materials owned by Blaser. Many of the materials in this series were written by close friends and colleagues of Blaser and have inscriptions and signatures by the author.

Partial manuscripts, drafts, and notes

This sub-series, consisting primarily of loose handwritten pages, consists of draft versions of poems or miscellaneous thoughts in draft form. This represents the bulk of the fonds, and was received in an unorganized state. There is next to no order between files, many of which will contain iterations of the same work.

This sub-series contains printed and digital musical scores, also includes some transparencies for publishing purposes and is mostly textual records.

Recordings

This sub-series contains live performances, reels for use in performance, master tapes for recording projects, and broadcasts. The formats are mostly audio cassettes and audio reels. The Recordings sub-series also includes items that are more experimental or improvisatory and might not be included in the works list.

Sub-series consists of writings and drawings by others; writers include Beth Jankola, Carolyn Zonailo, Howard Broomfield, Jamie Reid and Gail Tuttle. Artists include Madja Van Dam and Chris Reed.

Sub-series consists of Daphne Marlatt's grant applications and supporting material, including photographs, biographical information, promotional articles, and correspondence.

English as a Second Language (ESL) training materials and photographs

Sub-series consists of records relating to English as a Second Language (ESL) programs run by the Canadian Farmworkers Union, particularly the ESL Crusades, which customized English learning to farmworkers’ specific needs and brought the program to workers in their homes. Records include tutors’ manuals, educational materials, reports on the success of the ESL programs, photographs of ESL graduation events, and a photo book depicting farmworkers studying English.

General records

Sub-series consists of records relating to Wah's professional service and activities, including his service on various groups and committees (excluding the Writers’ Union of Canada), his work as a judge for literary prizes, his applications for grants, and related activities. Records include correspondence, manuscripts and drafts of works of others, and administrative records.

"The Swiss Conspiracy" screenplays and related records

Sub-series consists of records relating to Norman Klenman and Philip Saltzman’s development of a feature film screenplay titled “The Ultimate Victim,” which was eventually produced under the title "The Swiss Conspiracy". Records include outlines and various drafts of the screenplay, contracts, notes, correspondence, and research material.

General project records

Sub-series consists of records relating to various projects James Delgado worked on throughout his professional career. Records were created or compiled by Delgado through his work for the National Park Service, the Vancouver Maritime Museum, and the Institute of Nautical Archaeology. A large number of files are related to exploring shipwreck sites, court cases related to shipwreck salvage, and the nomination of shipwrecks for Historic Places status. Records include correspondence, photographs, notes, meeting agendas and minutes, newspaper clippings, journal and magazine articles, pamphlets, trip reports and itineraries, press releases, project proposals, and reports.

There are many ways records

Sub-series consists of records relating to Trower’s 2002 book "There Are Many Ways," which features the artwork of Jack Wise alongside Trower's poetry. Records includes early manuscripts from the 1960’s and 1970’s that were later used as a basis for the book, the original cover and early page proofs, as well as final and galley proofs.

Moving through the mystery records

Sub-series consists of a draft manuscript by Trower titled "Tapdance on Quicksand," which evolved into "Moving Through the Mystery," published in 1969.

Published stories - general records

Sub-series consists of records relating to the writing and publishing of Flood’s stories that appeared in individual magazines or journals. Records include drafts, correspondence with publishers, contracts and notebooks. Sub-series also includes six publications in which Flood’s stories are printed: "Wascana Review" (1968); "Quarry" (1980); "Room Of One's Own" (1981); "Makara" (1976); "Baker's Dozen" (1984); and "Makara" (1978).

“Woodsmen of the West” screenplays and related records

Sub-series consists of records relating to Norman Klenman’s development of a screenplay for a feature film titled “Woodsmen of the West,” inspired by M. Allerdale Grainger’s memoir of the British Columbia coast in 1908, and plans for its production. Records include several screenplay drafts, notes and ideas, research material, contracts, and production budget and casting proposals.
