Turning left to the ladies

Series consists of records relating to Braid's work on her book Turning Left to the Ladies. Records include drafts, correspondence with her publisher and editor, and drafts for the editor.

Government relations - correspondence

Series consists of records relating to the university's interactions with the provincial and federal governments. Records consist predominantly of correspondence, including much that originated with other offices and was copied to the Vice-President, Academic. For detailed description of record types, see individual sub-series.

Breweriana

Series consists of Rowling's collection of artefacts and merchandise relating to BC breweries. Items include beer bottles, labels and glasses; posters, t-shirt, coasters, bottle openers, keychains, and business cards. Most of the materials relate to post-1980 craft breweries, but there are some beer bottles (sub-series 1), posters (sub-series 3) and artefacts (sub-series 6) for earlier historic BC breweries; see sub-series descriptions for details.

Hops industry research and exhibit files

Series consists of files relating to the hops industry in British Columbia. Sub-series 1 brings together Evans' general research files on hops growing. Much of this material was accumulated as Evans worked on "Brewer's Gold", a travelling exhibit on the history of hops in BC. Sub-series 2 consists of the exhibit project files. Project records

Series consists primarily of records relating to the Planning for Change training strategy, but also contains files relating to a few other smaller projects undertaken by the Association. Records include correspondence, proposals, contracts, letters of agreement, meeting agendas and minutes, briefs, reports, reprints, financial statements, drafts, notes, and working papers.

Oral history interviews: biographical forms and summaries

Series consists of the paper documentation associated with each interview subject. Records consist of biographical forms and oral history interview summaries. The biographical form captures the participant's personal data inlcuding information relating to the subject's occupation, places lived, education and employment history, parents, spouses, children. The oral history interview summary forms were prepared by the interviewers to summarize the contents of each cassette tape.

Merchandise

Series consists of physical merchandise produced and distributed by Adbusters Media Foundation, as well as born-digital records related to the creation and design of the merchandise. Physical merchandise includes postcards, stickers, pin-back buttons, fridge magnets, flags, apparel, a coffee mug, a magnetized ceramic cookie, spoof parking tickets, and baseball cards. Born-digital records include photographs and digital graphic mockups of postcards, stickers, T-shirts, coffee mugs, baseball cards, flags, packaging, pin-back buttons, patches, and a spoof parking ticket. While there is some overlap, physical merchandise and born-digital records in this series do not necessarily correlate.

The series has been arranged by the archivist into two sub-series based on the record's format.

Publications and associated records

Series consists of Adbusters Media Foundation publications and books authored by Kalle Lasn, as well as drafts and mockups associated with the creation of these publications. Records include copies of Adbusters magazine and its mockups, Big Noise magazine, Culture Jam, Design Anarchy, Meme Wars, the Adbusters Media Literacy Kit, calendars, pamphlets, posters, digital spoof ads, and digital listserv newsletters.

The series has been arranged by the archivist into ten sub-series based on the publication type:

Administrative records

Series contains records related to the administration of Adbusters Media Foundation. Sub-series contained in this series were classified as administrative in the original arrangement of the organization's records. Records include stationary, brand assets, job descriptions, manuals, user surveys, marking plans, operational notes, subscription scheduling, generic communications with subscribers, production schedules, order tracking tables, invoices, sales forecasts, advertisements, grant applications, annual reports, financial summaries, balance sheets, payment schedules, and sales analytics.

The series has been arranged by the archivist into nine sub-series based on the type of administrative activity:

Government relations records

Series consists of records relating to the society's relations and correspondence with government bodies and individuals involved in government affairs, particularly at the municipal and provincial level. Includes records relating to the activities of the Governent Relations Committee, as well as the Interim Planning Committee established by the Provincial Government in 1994 to assist in the establishment of the Technical University of British Columbia. Series also includes records concerning government organization and education policies and campaigns, accumulated by the society for informational purposes.

Records include correspondence, reports, minutes, press releases and newspaper articles.

Journalism and media publications

Series consists of records relating to Fellman's journalism and media activities. Fellman was a regular contributor of op-eds, commentaries and opinions pieces to various newspapers and magazines, and he made radio and television appearances as an expert on the American Civil War period.

Records include media clippings and copies of articles authored by Fellman, offprints, freelance agreements, an audio recording and a video (dvd).

Media outlets represented in the series include the Vancouver Sun, The Tyee, Globe and Mail, National Post, Financial Post, Saturday Night magazine, New York Times, Raleigh News and Observer, Kansas City Star, and the Hong Kong Standard. Intermixed are also copies of works that appeared in more academic journals, including Southern Cultures, Georgia Historical Quarterly, Journal of Southern History, The Historical Journal, as well as Fellman's contribution to a book of essays entitled Parallel Destinies: Canadian-American Relations West of the Rockies (Montreal: McGill-Queen's University Press, 2002).

Materials include two broadcasts in which Fellman appeared as a commentator on Robert E. Lee: a dvd of an episode from the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) American Experience television program, "Robert E. Lee: At War with his Country ... and Himself"; and a sound recording of a National Public Radio radio broadcast, "On the Character of Robert E. Lee." Both are located in file 8.

Monument design records

Series consists of records relating to the site for the Monument, and its artistic design. Activities documented are site selection, the national design competition (stages one and two), and selection of the dedication languages inscribed on the Monument. Includes correspondence, notes, a site map, subcommittee minutes, competition guidelines, records pertaining to the jurisdiction of the Vancouver Parks Board and the Vancouver Public Art Committee, copies of all 98 design submissions, and questionnaires given out to the public with regard to the dedication languages. Also includes transcripts and audiotapes containing discussions about the selection of seven dedication languages for the site. Also includes the original maquette and artwork for the winning design by Beth Alber.

Correspondence and project files

Series consists of records relating to historical enquiries made or received by Evans and his activities as an historical consultant on a number of projects.

Activities documented include design projects incorporating historical materials for brewpubs and breweries (Spinnakers and Moon Under Water in Victoria, Longwood in Nanaimo, the Vancouver Island Brewery); his work as historical interpretive consultant for the Arbutus Greenway Residential Project in Vancouver that redeveloped the old Vancouver Breweries site at 11th Ave. and Vine St. in 1999; a proposal to the BC Trade and Investment Office to develop a resource guide promoting BC brewing expertise to potential clients in Japan; and his correspondence with brewers, breweries, collectors, associations, and other brewing historians on topics relating to beer history.

Records includes correspondence, notes, and working papers; agreements, invoices, and work orders; brewery promotional material; copies of newspaper and periodical articles; copies of fire insurance plans (sections), historical photographs, and archival materials; and a copy of the Fall 1996 BCL Guide containing Evans' article "When Everything Old is New Again: The Tradition of Brewing in BC" (file 10).

Openings and dedication--Harbour Centre files

Series consists of records relating to the opening of the Harbour Centre Campus. Activities documented include the planning and production of the official opening ceremonies, celebration dinner, faculty and staff reception, and public open house, as well as the openings, dedications, and namings of individual rooms and facilities within Harbour Centre. Records include invitations, guest lists, programs, books of words (order of proceedings), correspondence, news releases, publications, briefing notes, photographs, and other documents.

Salary Equity Study Committee files

This series consists of the working files of the Director of Academic Relations who chaired the Salary Equity Study Committee. Records include meeting agendas, minutes, reports (including the Committee's final report), correspondence, statistics, notes, and working papers.

Labour Canada interviews

In 1988 Kate Braid traveled across Canada interviewing tradeswomen for inclusion in two booklets she produced for Labour Canada -- Building the Future: Profiles of Canadian Women in Trades and Looking Ahead: Profiles of Two Canadian Women in Trades. Series includes audio cassettes, transcripts, notes, drafts of profiles, a logbook, correspondence, government publications and reference material.

Financial records

Series consists of records relating to the Association's management of its financial resources. Activities documented include applying for grants, budgeting, preparing financial statements and tax returns, reporting to funding agencies, and financial auditing. Records include grant applications, income tax returns, financial statements, ledgers, correspondence, reports, agreements, and contracts.

Interviews

Series consists of transcripts and audio recordings arising from Gillian Stainsby's thesis. Note that all item-level Scope and content descriptions are transcriptions from the cassette cover of Stainsby's original recordings.

Faculties - correspondence

Series consists of the Assistant's / Director's correspondence with, related to, or copied from university faculties on matters relating to academic appointments, renewal, tenure, promotion, and sabbatical. Records consists of correspondence. For the list of faculties included in the correspondence, see "Access points" below.

Writings: articles, journals, pamphlets

Series consists of Gambone's published periodical articles and pamphlets. The series contains a run of issues of Any Time Now, a magazine Gambone published with Dick Martin (1990-1992, 1998-2007); copies of journal issues containing Gambone's articles, including Anarchy: A Journal of Armed Desire (Berkeley, CA), Discussion Bulletin (Grand Rapids, MI), Freedom (UK), Workers' Democracy (St. Louis, MO); and Polish translations of two of Gambone's essays published by Nakladatelskí Solidarita.

Canadian Federation of Deans of Management and Administrative Studies (CFDMAS) records

Series consists of records relating to Dean Stanley Shapiro's tenure as Chairman of the Canadian Federation of Deans of Management and Administrative Studies from 1988 to 1990 and departmental membership in the CFDMAS from 1987 to 1995. Records include correspondence, agendas, minutes, legal contracts, budget and financial working papers, reports and publications.

Conferences, seminars and retreats files

Series consists of records documenting various conferences, seminars, and retreats organized by the department, and in particular those sponsored by the Ruth Wynn Woodward Endowed Chair. See sub-series descriptions for activities documented and record types included.

Minutes

Series consists of records relating to various meetings associated with the organization. Activities documented include Annual General Meetings; the meetings of several committees, including the Steering Committee, Negotiating Committee, and Coordinating Collective; and meetings of women's centres from across BC / Yukon. Records include minutes, agendas, correspondence, reports, notes and working papers.

Professional consulting files

As an expert in his field of study, Beyerstein was often called on to provide a professional opinion in legal matters. This work involved preparing reports, and providing professional opinions in the courtroom and for special committees. Records include reports, correspondence, reference material, invoices, and receipts.

Organization records

Series consists of records relating to the establishment, structure and governance of the Association. Activities documented include incorporation, policy development, and liaison with the provincial Ministry of Women's Equality. Records includes certificate of incorporation, constitutions, policies and procedures, and correspondence.

Departmental correspondence

Series consists of the Chair's correspondence with University administration and other departments. Activities and events documented include budget preparation, conference planning, and program development. Records include correspondence, publications, and a single issue of the departmental newsletter.

Office of the President records

Series consists of records relating to the activities of the President and Office of the President of the Technical University of British Columbia. Activities, events and topics documented include activities of the Interim Planning Council, Interim Governing Board, and university committees and boards; academic issues, including academic and program planning activities, as well as research and external affairs activities; campus and administrative structures development; community relations activities; financial and fundraising activities; human resources, information services, legal affairs, and systems management; as well as external co-operation and liaison activities. Series also includes records relating to TechBC, accumulated by the Office of the President for reference or historical value.
